day-long meditation retreat

Posted on

The Mayne Island Zen Circle will host a silent meditation retreat this coming Sunday. We’ll alternate 25-minute periods of sitting, standing, and walking meditation. If the weather permits, we’ll take the practice outdoors for walking meditation and an hour of traditional work practice. Peter Renner will offer beginning instructions and occasional words of encouragement.

sittingDetails: Sunday, March 29, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, 313 Mariners Way. For emergencies during the retreat, contact 250-539-5310 (Fitzgerald residence). A $10 fee goes towards space rental and Peter’s ferry fare. An opportunity to make dana, a voluntary and private donation, will be available at the end of the retreat; funds will be donated to Victoria Hospice

Bring clothes suitable for walking and working outdoors; wear muted colors for indoors. Also a bag lunch; a meditation cushion or bench if you have it; ordinary chairs and throw cushions are available. Leave behind cell phones, journals, reading materials, loud clothing, strong perfumes—in short, anything that might distract us from paying attention to what’s right in front of us.

Please contact Dawne Cressman (registrar) by telephone 250-539-3195 or email dawne539 at yahoo dot ca. If coming by ferry, consider B&B accommodations for the night before.

“Peter brings a gift of his calm presence and instruction for a wonderful day which reminds me how to be present. The tranquil setting and the sitting and work meditation, along with the silent lunch is an awesome experience. I am looking forward to March 29.” ~ Debbie, retired business owner and previous retreat participant.
