worth pondering

Posted on

There’s this line by Mahatma Gandhi which shows up on fridge magnets and greeting cards: You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Considering who said these words and under what circumstances, they deserve serious consideration. I wonder how my conduct reflects my wishes for this world? How do dissatisfaction, disappointment, and frustration colour my worldview? What do I do (or not do) to make a world I wish for others and myself? What are your thoughts on this?

  1. I’ve never entirely understood this quotation. The best I’ve been able to do is to equate it with “Act the way you would feel,” basically be the kind of person you’d like to see populating your ideal future.

  2. Yes! Peace, if that’s what I desire, and neighbourly love, respect, acceptance — all the lofty ideals — HAVE to begin within. Looking of them “out there” or blaming others for their lack is futile. This I am learning, slowly … two step forward, one back.
