love (in) this moment

Posted on

.

“Love is mysterious,” writes Jack Kornfield. “We don’t know what it is, but we know when it is present. If we seek love, we must ask where it is to be found. It is here only this moment. To love in the past is simply a memory. To love in the future is a fantasy. There is only one place where love can be found, where intimacy and awakening can be found, and that is in the present. … The only place we can genuinely love a tree, the sky, a child, or our lover is in the here and now.”

  4. Peter,
I have listened to several of Jack Kornfield’s books on tape and I admire your ability to isolate passages of prose and poetry to find the essential spiritual meanings. My favorite Kornfield book so far has been: After the ecstasy, the laundry : how the heart grows wise on the spiritual path. The book for me was yet another reminder that everything we experience can be distilled down to living in the moment whether it is mundane or spiritual. We still learn about loving in the moment whether it is an eros love or an agape love.
