respite 4 caregivers

bodhi-005.jpg… at Jizo Mountain Hermitage. As time allows, I offer my home on Galiano Island to anyone wishing to make a personal retreat. People come for 2-3 days to slip from under the burdens of their everyday. They typically spend time in silence: sleeping, reading, journal-keeping, going for walks, sleeping some more, soaking in the tub, going for a massage, meditating (instruction gladly given), being served vegetarian meals, home-made bread, and tea at all hours–all in the tradition of a Zen monastery.

houseinsidesm.jpgThe costs is between $30 and $60 per night on a sliding scale and includes a private bedroom with balcony and a bathroom/shower en suite. Net proceeds from retreat income goes to the food bank. If this is of interest to you (or as a gift to dear friend), kindly contact peter at renner-at-gulfislands.com.

My three days with Peter was exactly what I needed. The experience provided me with time for reflection and reading, a wonderful walking meditation and restorative sleep. Peter’s support during meditation and nuggets of advise and wisdom supported my spiritual development in unexpected ways. Even though I spent most of my time in silence I feel I have made a new friend and found a sacred place to visit once again.

from DC on April 25, 2008: “My time at Peter’s respite was short, but I felt like I’d been there along time. I left my watch at home and felt the timelessness of the experience. With his gentle support and encouragement to do what I felt like doing, I was able to focus on myself and take the time to meditate, walk, garden and just sit in the sunshine. It was wonderful. Through Peter’s loving service to people, he has created a sanctuary on Galiano Island.”

The respite gives me a chance to be with myself, away from the heavy parts of my life right now, and to feel the lightness that is within me. Going there has been a wonderful gift for myself.
