the olympic spirit

According to SPIEGEL, authorities in Beijing are calling yesterday’s protests in London ”sabotage” perpetrated by Tibetan separatists. Such actions are “disgraceful” and “not in the Olympic spirit,” they say. More protests await as the torch heads to Paris and then San Francisco.

According to the Guardian, Olympic organisers have hired the public relations firm of Hill & Knowlton. With offices in 40 countries, H&K seems well-suited to the task, having previously spun stories for Enron, the CIA, the Gulf War, the tobacco industry, Maldives dictator Gayyoom, and such regimes as China, Peru, Indonesia, and Egypt. How do these people face themselves in the mirror each morning?
